Too much salt is a bad thing, but it’s usually worth it with Angie! We were ready to see her latest release, Salt! The story begins in North Korea, two years ago. Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) is tied up and tortured for being an alleged spy. She gets released, and she is rescued by an United States agent.
Reaching present day, Salt lives in Washington, D.C.,where she leads a domestic, married life. Yet, it is at her job where Evelyn gets informtion about a man that may be a Russian spy. She is a part of his interrogation, where she is told a story about a young couple that has lost a child. The baby allegedly was adopted by Lee Harvey Oswald, then was named Alex. The boy grew up to be trained by Russian agents, then was set to live a secret life within The United States. Salt and the other agents do not believe this story.
The possible spy goes on, saying that Salt is a Russian spy! The undercover tests show that the spy is telling the truth. Now, all of the U.S. agents are eying Salt, and she is trying to cover her tracks. The spy proceeds to get free from U.S. authorities, and he murders to agents. As this agent is on the run, Salt is in the midst of being tracked by U.S. agents!
She gets trapped within a C.I.A. facility, yet she manages to get free. Salt uses skilled tactics to escape, yet other agents find information that shows Salt being a skilled Russian spy. She has to use complex physical maneuvers to escape a tactical team that was sent to capture her. She escapes the C.I.A. building, and she runs loose throughout Washington, D.C.!
Salt gets a taxi, heading to find information about a Michael Krause. She arrives at her home, looking for him, yet seeing that her home has been invaded. Salt has to hide as agents make their way into her home! As she escapes, a neighboring child allows her to climb into his window, where she hides in his apartment.
Salt manages to escape, yet agents are on her trail. They follow Salt into a subway tunnel, then back to the streets above. Guns are drawn as they catch up with her, and she screams! Salt claims that she has been set up, that she must find her husband, and that someone is trying to kill the Russian President. At this point, she leaps off of a bridge, onto a moving truck, then onto a moving tanker. Agents have followed her, and they are shooting!
Now that she is believed to be a mole, Salt steals a motorcycle, speeding away. Government agents plan to shut down New York City to catch her. She makes it to an apartment, but she is wounded.
Later, it is after a party when Evelyn Salt meets with a guy named Phil. He claims to be her boyfriend, and she tells him that she is an agent of The C.I.A.. She begins to pose as Mrs. Hernandez, getting with this guy into a New York City hotel. There, Salt removes false teeth, contacts, and she unpacks her arsenal! Salt downloads further information, then she proceeds to dye her hair.
Now acting as an undercover C.I.A. agent, Salt proceeds to make phone calls. The next day, a funeral for a government dignitary occurs, and The President is eulogizing this person. Salt is there, yet she has to move quickly to a nearby church facility. She is uncertain as to whether or not agents are tracking her, and she begins to become curious about her own past activities.
Two other agents are at this funeral. They track after Salt, and she has to battle past them. A pipe organ gets activated, setting off a smoke bomb, fillling the church with smoke. Salt manages to kill a tracking agent as she escapes!
Agent Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor) catches up with Salt, with other agents behind. They catch her, then they take her to be questioned. She is trapped in a police car, yet she manages to taze and smoke out the officers (all while handcuffed…). NYPD and government agents reach the scene, yet she escapes as there is a major car crash!
There are flashbacks of Salt being a child trained by Russian agents. She was met by an United States agent named Winter (Liev Schrieber), who apologized to her for an accident that involved her parents. Back to the present, Salt arrives in Russia, and she is greeted as Comrade Chenkov! She is given information about her next mission, which is to get atomic weapons from an United States facility.
A short time later, Salt sees her husband being shot and killed by Russians. She has to hide her emotions as she aligns with these Russians, whom are planning tactics to initiate the world’s greatest war effort! Salt works with one of these agents who claims to be her father, yet she kills him, then she escapes! She proceeds to set off fires and to kill other agents!
Russian agents now are addressing her as Chenkov. She is greeted by a male Russian agent whom gives her a new mission to The White House. Her assignment now is to kill The President! Salt gets intricately disguised as a man, but U.S. agents have intel on Salt being a Russian spy, being placed to initiate a war between the two nations.
Salt makes it into The White House! She is with other Russian agents, and they set off a bomb that nearly kills The President! U.S. agents know that Salt is in The White House, and they create a clearing to find her. It is feared that Salt may have started an act of war between Russia and The United States!
Salt escapes into other parts of the building through an air shaft. She is on the trail of The President, and she is eliminating nearby guards. Meanwhile, government agents are preparing war plans against Russia! As she is in a hallway, it is heard that The President is giving orders to prepare attack maneuvers against Russia. While listening, a nearby man reveals himself as Nikolai Tartovski (Liev Schreiber), an undercover Russian agent!
Tartovski shoots and kills U.S. agents, as Salt is slyly connecting with him to get details about an approaching nuclear launch against Saudi Arabia and Iran. She gets close with Tartovski, feigning friendship, and offering to help him. Yet, before she can make moves, Tartovski sees her plans to act against Russia were failed, along with efforts to kill other political figures.
Salt now is armed and ready for battle! She is prepared to fight Tartovski, getting into the weapons facility where he is located. They meet inside of this building, and a rough feud occurs. Salt gets shot in the back by arriving U.S. agents, just as she is shutting off a well-hidden attack sequence against The United States (she was protected….).
Salt is taken out, handcuffed, but she gets into a fight with a secret agent. She kills the agent, and she is taken away by helicopter. The White House and the rest of the nation have been saved…..for now!
I am getting really excited by these latest trailers for X-Men: First Class! I will have to spend some time online, reading about how this storyline is going to work out! That is one of my favorite comic adventure lines, and I hope that this latest film will be decent!
As with usual Fridays, I was at the movie theater! This week was a thrill because I got to see two films on which I had been waiting. The previews for each film had been highlighting the theaters and commercials for weeks, and I was ready by the time I got into my regular cinema!
Predators was our first movie! I was very excited about seeing this film, having followed the sci-fi/horror series since it began during the 1980’s. This version is set with a team of soldiers lead by Royce (Adrien Brody). He comes out of unconsciousness, falling into a jungle. He is found by individuals carrying heavy artillery, all of whom seemed to have experienced a similar falling episode.
They proceed to go after a safe zone, yet they end up falling into traps. It is during this time when they realize that they are on an alien planet, and that they have set off a series of random traps. Royce is a Earth drug officer. He is accompanied by a military sniper named Isabelle (Alice Braga), a drug cartel agent named Chuchillo (Danny Trejo), a doctor named Edwin (Topher Grace), and others.
They learn that the traps have been set by the monstrous, alien hunters, the predators. They are on a planet that is being used as a game reserve by the predators, whom hunt, capture, and kill a variety of species that have the bad luck of being on that world. This group of soldiers is in danger of being eliminated one by one until they come across Noland (Laurence Fishburne), who crash-landed on the planet ten years ago, and has learned to survive by out-smarting the predators.
During the terrifying time, the group finds that there are different levels of predators. Each level is more intense and terrifying in it’s manners of capturing and killing their prey. It is Edwin, Isabelle, and Royce whom lead all of the soldiers in attempts to defeat and to escape the alien hunters, yet they are unsuccessful! Royce and Isabelle are the only survivors, as they awaken one morning to find themselves amidst a collection of more Predators falling from the sky to begin their horrific hunts!
I was interested in seeing Despicable Me for some months, not really knowing the gist of the film until seeing recent trailers. A home in an ordinary neighborhood is located above a secret hideaway for a criminal mastermind named Gru (voice of Steve Carell), and his many, mini-minions. Gru has been gathering his forces for an ultimate plot to steal the moon!
Gru has a collection of tools and weapons which he and his followers plan to use. As he has various lasers and vehicles at his disposal, Gru is ready and able to eliminate anyone whom attempts to stop his attempt at capturing the moon. However, Gru winds up meeting three young sisters named Agnes (voice of Elsie Fisher), Edith (voice of Dana Gaier), and Margo (voice of Miranda Cosgrove), whom curiously idolize him, then begin to refer to him as Dad!
Gru’s interactions with the girls lead him to rethink his ways. The newly found affection that he has for the children opens up an unseen side of goodness within Gru. All of his weaponry, wicked plots, and the team of mini-minions are unable to stand against the goodess that Gru gains from his interactions with the young girls!
I have been a follower of The X-Men ever since childhood! I am excited to know that the latest feature film will be released soon! The movie, X-Men: First Class, is supposed to go back to when Professor Charles Xavier gathered his first mutant students in an effort to create his school. Also, it should highlight the beginnings of the friendship – feud between Professor X and Magneto!
I understand that the next and final film for Harry Potter will be divided into two parts! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part One should be released at the end of this year. The second part will be released during 2011!
Next week, Nicholas Cage will highlight the screen with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice! Her hotness, Angelina Jolie, will have a film released July 23, Salt! Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore will open the following week. August will feature films that include The Expendables, The Last Exorcism, Lottery Ticket, Step Up 3D, and Vampires Suck!
…and this was interesting….
This Friday did allow for a decent trip to the theater, as we seemed to have been dodging rainy weather. We did catch up with friends, and we did see two more-or-less decent films. These choices were decent selections within a summer that is allowing for the presentation of several popular pictures!
The Last Airbender was the first movie! The story surrounds a bond between clans that are ruled by the four elements: air, earth, fire, and water. The fire nation has chosen to revolt against the other clans, leading into a vicious battle that continued for over one hundred years. During this time, mostly all of the Avatars, rulers over the powers of the elements, had been eliminated.
A young boy named Aang (Noah Ringer) found that he possessed powers over all of the elements. He had been frozen in ice for sometime, until being found and set free by Katara (Mae Whitman), a Waterbender. Upon Aang’s release, he was joined by other benders on a dangerous expedition.
Their trip was rushed due to a battle that was taking place. A ruler of the Fire Kingdom had begun a feud against the Earth Kingdom. Aang was placed to enter this feud for the purpose of ending it, yet he had to learn the true force of his powers, first.
This required a journey to The North Pole, where Aang and the other benders located a powerful waterbender. This bender had the knowledge to teach them the powers behind the techniques of bending the natural elements. As Aang and the others gained greater understandings of their abilities, they would proceed to battle against Fire Lord Ozai, who already had lead a conquest over the airbenders, and planned to dominate all of the others!
We followed this with the teen-packed picture, Twilight: Eclipse! This is the third film to the teen-phenom series. It surrounds Bella (Kristen Stewart) having to chose between the two males whom hold romantic desires for her. One is a young vampire named Edward (Robert Pattinson), and the other is a very hunky werewolf named Jacob (Taylor Lautner).
It is during Bella’s adventures to discover which of the frightening fellas she really wants that she finds herself in the midst of a blood feud. Vampires and werewolves have been natural enemies for centuries, and the latest arrivals of young hotties did not change centuries of long-standing rivalries.
Things got somewhat twisted when Edward’s clan of vampires suddenly was threatened by the arrival of a new clan. The new bloodsuckers threatened to end the fragile truce between the vampires, and Jacob’s pack of werewolves. An alliance formed between Edward’s vampires and Jacob’s werewolves, intending to vanquish the new and unwanted vampires. All the while, Bella is stuggling to decide whether it is Edward or Jacob whom she really loves.
I was not overly impressed with tonight’s films. I felt that they may have been more appealing to a younger audience, as the plots seemed to be a bit immature and predictable. I have been a fan of vampire stories for years, and I was highly disappointed that this Twilight film featured the notorious night-crawlers as mere teenagers with no real vampire allure, no decent connection to the classic eastern-European vampire stories, and no actual depth to the long-standing depictions of the monstrously immortal creatures of lore.
Anyway. Predators opens next week! I have been waiting for this film ever since I heard the first details about it, a couple of years ago! Now, these are monsters that are sure to do some actual scaring in the theater, along with a bit of boisterous ass-kicking while on the silver screen! I have been following this story line ever since they began in the 80’s, with the starter-film featuring Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. I am very excited about this latest take!
Despicable Me starts next weekend, also! As well, several great features are coming soon! Get ready to see Beastly, Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Countdown to Zero, The Expendables, Ineption, Lottery Ticket, Salt, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Takers! Let’s go to the movies!!!
Please be aware of the dangers of plastics!!!
