What A Way to Go?

I realize that many times, people often are ready to throw their hands up, saying to Hell with it all!  Yet, there are times when you can read about someone’s efforts to end his or her life prematurely, and you wonder what they were thinking.  This one story shows that one person did intend to go out with a rush!

I guess that I did not mean to be funny.  I was reading some of the day’s news, when I came across one online story.  CNN had a posting about a news report out of Buffalo, New York.  A female Canadian died as she fell over Niagara Falls this past weekend.  Witnesses say that they saw the woman leap over the falls, plunging into the steam-filled cliff!

Located between The Great Lakes Erie and Ontario, Niagara Falls serves as a border region between The United States and Canada.  Specifically, it divides The State of New York and The Province of Ontario.  They sit as the centerpiece of the twin cities, Niagara Falls, New York and Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The Niagara Falls are an area of The Niagara River.  It flows between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.  An intense section of Niagara River is The Whirlpool Rapids, which brings the river to a mere sixty feet width.  The rapids themselves are within Niagara Gorge, where the river averages at 750 feet wide.

Anyhow.  I was reading the news, reviewing a story that I missed this morning.  A 51-year-old tourist was swimming in the area of Horseshoe Falls, which is an area of The Niagara Falls.  As to why she was swimming so near to an area of waterfalls, or why she did not understand that the strength of the flowing water trumps her forces by far is not known.

The woman’s name was not released.  Yet, they did say that she was 51 years old.  Passengers on the famous Maid of the Mist tour boat say that they saw her jump into the water and over the cliff, falling and disappearing into the steam below.  The tour boat and local law officers went to attempt saving the woman, yet she had died before any of them arrived at her location.  Roughly thirty people saw her dead body floating by as they were on tour boats!
