Well well well; another Friday evening! The nearby theater was visited, and two films were on the schedule. I believe that both of these movies did provide acceptable deliveries of entertainment!

We began with the science-fiction adventure film Battleship!  Based on the Hasbro boardgame of the same name, this movie surrounds the story of United States Naval Officers aboard a Pacific-stationed ship. Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is pushed to join The U.S. Marines by his service-injured brother. Alex’s ship is The U.S.S. John Paul Jones, which is stationed near to Hawai’i.

His service goes well at first, as he meets Samantha Shane (Brooklyn Decker), who is the daughter of The Sampson’s Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson). They begin to date, eventually reaching a deeper romance, then desiring to marry. Samantha is ready to take Alex’s hand is marriage, but he fears asking the permission of her father. Alex has been something of a rowdy serviceman aboard The Sampson, not always gaining the favor of Admiral Shane.

It is due to a brawl with a Japanese serviceman during the send-off ceremony for The Sampson that Alex finds himself in trouble with Marine officials. After a fight with a Japanese Naval officers, Alex gets expelled from The Marines!  He returns home to pick up his life, reacquainting with friends and family. During this time, Samantha has gone to Oahu to assist with the prosthesis adaptation procedures for Army Lieutenant Colonel Mick Canales (Gregory D. Gadson), who lost both legs in battle.

A signal sent through N.A.S.A. was picked up by extraterrestrials. They sent ships toward Earth in response, with one crashing at Hong Kong, and others landing within Pacific waters near to Hawai’i. U.S. and Japanese naval ships are within this ocean area already, near to The J.P. Jones. They are suddenly surprised by an enormous and translucent force field that surrounds all of the ships within this area, as well as all of the Hawaiian Islands!

A battle begins, with full military forces, which include a naval vessel carrying Petty Officer Cora ‘Weps’ Raikes (Rihanna).  During the fighting, the extraterrestrial forces destroy some of the Earth battleships.  Alex finds himself in command of his ship after it’s primary leaders are killed. Fighting continues, as Alex’s ship is able to destroy two alien vessels. At that time, an extaterrestrial attacker is captured, and our soldiers learn that the aliens are sensitive to sunlight from our star, as transmitted through our atmosphere.  This information is used to lead additional attacks against the space invaders!

Other alien forces reach the island of Oahu, where they attack a N.A.S.A. transmissions system. Colonel Canales and Samantha Shane are there, where they rescue a trapped scientist. They learn more of the alien plan for invasion of Earth, which involves their use of this transmissions system. Shane is able to send a message to Alex to warn him of what is coming!

The surviving members of Alex’s battleship make it back to Hawai’i, where they are able to get the use of the U.S.S. Missouri BB-63. This is a retired ship which has been transformed into an at-sea museum. Aboard it are retired Navy veterans, all of whom are asked to assist with Alex and soldiers to revitalize The Missouri.

This ship is returned to service, where it is used as the lead vessel in the battle against the extraterrestrial forces. As other alien ships have arrived, The Missouri is lead by Alex into the fight. It is the lead battleship, which is able to damage alien transmissions, and to destroy approaching alien ships. As the invaders have been rendered incapable of waging fully-fledged battle, they retreat. Alex and the naval forces successfully defeat the invaders, then he and other officers are tributed by military leaders for their brave services to save our planet!

We watched What To Expect When You’re Expecting, second! This actually was a surprisingly funny film, based upon a guideline handbook for pregnant women that was a 1984 New York Times best seller! The actual book has become one of the twenty-five most influential books relating to U.S. pregnancy over the last quarter-century!

The film’s story line surrounds five couples from Atlanta. Jules (Cameron Diaz) and Evan (Matthew Morrison) are celebrities, suddenly surprised that they are pregnant. Gary (Ben Falcone) and Wendy (Elizabeth Banks) are about to have twins, and they have to cope with Wendy’s overbearing father, Ramsey (Dennis Quaid), during their pregnancy.

Holly (Jennifer Lopez) is a photographer who is wanting to travel around the world to expand upon her photography career.  This does not set well with her husband, Alex (Rodrigo Santoro), who joins a support group for seemingly sidelined, expecting fathers. Here, Alex vents his fears and frustrations about the pregnancy, while trying to learn how he can reactivate the romance with Holly.

Marco (Chase Crawford) and Rosie (Anna Kendrick) are cooks out of a travelling truck. They have a one-nighter, which leads to a surprise pregnancy! They end up joining the support group for first-time parents due to the fear of this completely unexpected result of their sudden-spring sexual encounter.

It is within the expecting fathers’ support group where Alex meets Vic (Chris Rock). Within this “dude group”, Alex and Vic meet Patel (Amir Talai), who also has fears of the upcoming childbirth with his wife. They get knowledge of a group for men who are expectant fathers, and who meet within Central Park, where they gather as part-time actors who work to produce NYC plays!

The much-anticipated Men In Black III opens next Friday!  Will Smith returns as Agent J, who time travels back to 1969, getting the help of a young Agent K (Josh Brolin). Agent J knows that the life of his fellow agent, as well as the survival of Earth, are at stake due to an oncoming alien invasion that is being constructed by a malevolent space invader that is aleady here!

Next week also has the premiere of  The Chernobyl Diaries!  June starts with Apartment 143, A Cat in Paris, A Closed Book, and Snow White and The Huntsman.  The following week has Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Prometheus.  More of June has Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Brave, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Magic Mike, Rock of Ages, Seeking A Friend For The End of The World, That’s My Boy, and Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection.  The Amazing Spiderman is pumping up, with trailers and television clips becoming more detailed.  It opens July 3!
