A Brief Recognition of Gold!

August 21, 2013 at 8:46 PM (curious research, environmental issues, human life issues, legal issues, science and technology, terrestrial studies, web gossip)

Gold!  It is not at all something with which we are unfamiliar.  For millennia, humanity has yearned for, relished after, and been wanton with the precious metal for reasons of all imagination. The beauty and the brilliance of it has made gold one of the most prime materials of the planet!

Albeit it likely has been a part of the planetary system since the origins of Earth, gold was discovered relatively recently. During the nineteenth century, within January of 1848, General John A. Sutter lead a group of miners in the mountainous regions of California. He and his team entered this area at Coloma, California. The workers ended up excavating a previously unknown element which turned out to be of extreme value! The miners digging within the caves of these mountains were able to dig out gold from beneath the layers of rock.

The gold that these miners excavated amounted to roughly twenty-three carats. It was a valuable discovery, yet it did not prove to be worthwhile for General Sutter and his workers. They wound up losing the diggings to Mexican people, neighbors, as well as rouge employees! Tough Stuff!!!

Gold is considered to be a precious metal, rated as 79 on The Periodic Table of Elements. It is rated above other precious metals that include silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium. The only precious metal rated higher than gold currently is iridium, which is 77 on The Periodic Table.

Our Earth is the only place we know of to find solid gold deposits. Most of this is located beneath the continental grounds of Africa, The Americas, and Asia. It is the most precious of the precious metals on the planet, as we currently claim eight. These include gold, along with silver, platinum, palladium, osmium, iridium, rhodium, and ruthenium, all in that order.

Fantastic & Futuristic Fun Films For Friday!

August 10, 2013 at 3:28 AM (climate studies, comic book characters, current news, historic review, human life issues, legal issues, medical concerns, movie reviews, political atmosphere, public debate, science and technology, social opinion, web gossip)

I had been anticipating this evening’s features for a few weeks!  I was glad to have gotten to the local theater, so that I could enjoy each film thoroughly!  Whereas one was a continuation of an adventure story that is capturing the attention of action-seeking audiences, the second film forecast a future Earth where all is not set on equal terms for every person.

The excitement began with Percy Jackson:  Sea of Monsters!  The film is prefaced by letting the audience know that sometimes, the gods would have children with mortals, called half-bloods.  One of them is Percy (Logan Lerman), son of Poseidon, who found himself in competition to become the next champion of the demigod children.  Percy’s best friends are Clarisse (Leven Rambin) and Luke (Jake Abel).  They attend the Camp Half-Blood For Demi-God Children together.

At this camp, Camp Half-Blood, Percy meets his half-brother Tyson (Douglas Smith), who is a Cyclops.  Also, the camp is eyed, then raided by Luke (Jake Abel), who is the son of Hermes.  Luke has a vendetta against the gods, and he means to annihilate Mount Olympus!  He has gone out of the way to poison a magic tree that protects the camp, now leaving it free to attack.

However, Percy’s friend Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) has learned that The Golden Fleece can heal the tree.  The god Dionysus (Stanley Tucci) acquires this knowledge, and he sends two students, Tyson and Grover, to get hold of the fleece.  Annabeth and Percy accompany them.

The Oracle gives a prophecy that one of the three major gods will battle Luke.  Percy, with one of his friends, will either have to save Mount Olympus, or will have to eliminate it altogether.  Percy and his allies go to seek Luke, yet they are trapped by The Manticore.  The friends escape, yet they are caught and swallowed by The Charybdis, where they reunite with Clarisse.

The group escapes, managing to reach an amusement park.  There, they set Grover free, and they get hold of The Golden Fleece.   However, Luke arrives, stating that he means to use The Golden Fleece to awaken the god Kronos!  Luke then tries to murder Percy with an arrow, yet Tyson positions himself between the shot, taking the arrow instead.  Tyson winds up being brought back to life with water, as Kronos swallows Grover and Luke!

Percy is able to use his sword to attack and to reduce Kronos.  Then,  The Manticore ends up being killed by Clarisse and Grover.  It nearly killed Annabeth, but Percy used The Golden Fleece to bring her back to life!  Afterward, the friends return to Camp Half-Blood to use The Golden Fleece to bring the dying camp tree back to life!

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Our second film was the anticipated Elysium!  By reaching the year 2154, there is a definite and deadly distinction between the haves and the have-nots!  All of those who have the luxuries of wealth, security, and personal satisfactions live within the Earth-orbiting space station called Elysium.  All else whom are impoverished, uneducated, and diseased live on Earth!

Jodie Foster stars as Delacourt, a ruthless leader of an Earth-orbiting luxury station called Elysium.  There, humans live in safety and security, with no fears or burdens.  All others remain on the planetary surface, dealing with the hardships of poverty, illness, warfare, and the darker sides od humanity.

Max (Matt Damon) works for Armadyne Corporation, which built Elysium.  It is during this work where he is exposed to lethal substances.  These toxic chemicals create a deadly condition within him, giving him only five days to live!  If Max wants to find a cure, he must leave Earth’s surface to reach Elysium!

His quest for assistance takes him to seek a man called Spider (Wagner Moura).  This man has helped Max before, so Max trusts him.  Spider assisted Max with sneaking into Elysium, and getting the medical supplies necessary to treat his chemical exposure.  Once inside the station, Max was able to get biogenetic technology to enhance himself, becoming stronger, as he got wiser to what was happening with Delacourt’s actions.  Yet, Delacourt learned of Max’s actions, and she sends scouts through L.A. to find him.

Spider got all of the details that he could use to give all of the Elysium residents on Earth.  Max does not help with singling out only Elysium citizens.  He deals with Kruger to get him to change Spider’s methods of operation.

While returning to Elysium, a fight occurs.  Kruger is shot.  All passengers are returned to Delacourt.  She reprimands Kruger for encouraging the shot, and he stabs her!  Delacourt dies!  Kruger proceeds to raid Elysium, seeking Max, while chasing Spider as well!

Kruger encounters Max, and a fight ensues!   The fight seems brief, and Max kills Kruger!  Max then gets into the main computer room, logging onto Elysium’s main drive.  Max starts the main systems, accessing all of the major population links, where he is able make all people legal citizens of Elysium.   As the computer does this, Max dies.

As always, several great movies are coming!  I am looking forward to films that include Baggage Claim, Closed CircuitThe Counselor, Ender’s Game, Getaway, Jobs, Last Vegas, Prisoners, Rush, and Thor:  The Dark World!  Movies, movies, movies!

…..and wha’s your motivation????

Bring the Rain!

August 3, 2013 at 2:57 AM (current news, human life issues, legal issues, movie reviews, public debate, social opinion, tv reviews, web gossip)

This was one feature that film fans had been hollering for throughout the summer!  Two of Hollywood’s hot-daddies were billed as dual headliners in an action flick that was certain to entice audiences, while the theatrics lit up the big screen.  Yes, 2 Guns did “bring the rain”!

The film begins with U.S. naval intelligence officer Marcus Stigman (Mark Wahlberg) working with Drug Enforcement Agency agent Bobby Trench (Denzel Washington) on an undercover assignment to trace drug kingpins.  Their mission has been to infiltrate the network of a Mexican drug cartel, and danger comes at every turn!

Stigman and Trench are not exactly friendly with one another, having been forced into partnership by their agencies.  They realize that they must work together, as their mission can become lethal at any moment.  This becomes especially dangerous with the allied addition of Trench’s girlfriend, Deb (Paula Patton) to their assignment.  Now, the group must work together to track down and catch the drug traffickers while dealing with personal issues that have the potential to destroy the entire case!

2 Guns

August still has several films left for the month!  Next week will feature the releases of the anticipated science-fiction film Elysium, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster!  The same date carries Percy Jackson:  Sea of Monsters and We’re The Millers!  August 16 will have Jim Carrey leading a cast in Kick Ass 2, along with Oprah Winfrey’s The Butler!  That day also has the openings of Jobs and Paranoia!
